Getting to know Maddy Rocci

Maddison Rocci is a point guard for the Southside Flyers, and after guiding the team to a Premiership win in 2024, she’s geared up for another big season in the blue and white!

The Southside Flyers will play all home games at State Sport Centres in season 2025, and we’re proud to be home to the team for their training and preparation.

Maddy, welcome to season 2025, what are you most looking forward to?

We’ve got a new group of girls, we’ve got a new coach, we’ve got everything that’s basically new! We’ve got four core players returning from last season. So, a new look for the Southside Flyers, but something that’s gonna be super exciting.

You won the Premiership in 2024, how do you carry that momentum into this season?

We were lucky enough to win the grand final. And we’ve won that premiership. And teams are probably gonna come after us like they do every season. So we just have to defend that title, and play every game like it’s our last. It was an amazing feeling.

Talk us through the winning match for the Premiership.

[We] sent it to game three, which obviously, probably prefer to win a title in front of your home fans. So to have the State Netball Centre packed, with our fans and our family, I think that’s something that’s pretty special to have those people around you that can share that moment with you.

You train at the newly renovated State Basketball Centre, how have the facilities there helped you prepare?

We’re pretty lucky to have all the facility facilities that we have. I think we’re probably one of the [only] WNBL teams that have a facility like that where you have gym, on court and recovery all in one place, as well as a players lounge where you can sit and relax. So, yeah, we’re pretty lucky to have the facilities like that.

How would you describe the team this year in 3 words?

Physical, competitive and funny.
