10 MSAC Squad Members recently made the trek to the Gold Coast for the Swimming Australia Age Championships, with personal bests made, bronze medals won and plenty of good memories made!

This competition (referred to also as the ‘Nationals’) is considered the peak of Age-Group swimming in Australia, took place from the 6th – 14th April in Queensland, including two days of Para-Swimming.

The team of 10 swimmers included Frances Boudville, Keira Carlon, Noah Chapple, Eliza Hufton, Jasmine Hume, Chiara Hutchinson, Amelia Kennedy, Elizabeth Mak, Karine Tan and Emily Tulloch.

Three out of the 10, Frances, Noah and Jasmine, were competing at Nationals for the first time, while Karine was competing in her fourth – the most of anyone on the squad.

Noah competed in 7 individual events in total, the most of any MSAC swimmer.

Highlights from the week included:

  • Noah placed 13th in the 1500m Freestyle with a 7-second personal best  – his third time competing in the 1500m event.
  • Noah competed in a whopping 7 events, once again the most of any MSAC swimmer.
  • Eliza competed in her first National Final and placed 20th 100m Freestyle. She scored a personal best time of 59.38 to send her into the final race.
  • Elizabeth swam her best time in a year, placing 12th in 50m Freestyle
  • Emily also swam her best time in a year, placing 10th in the 100m Backstroke
  • The Girls’ (ages 15-16) 4x50m Medley Relay team (representing Victoria) placed 9th in Australia, with Emily starting strong with Backstroke, Frances and Karine continuing with Breaststroke and Butterfly respectively, and Eliza bought it home with Freestyle.

Some of the squad have even brought home some silverware, with Elizabeth Mak picking up two Bronze medals.

We’re incredibly proud of the squad and their performances, and they head back to Melbourne ready to prepare for their next events and continue their hard work in the pool! But in the meantime, they’re enjoying a well-deserved rest!

The MSAC Swim Squad provides the best environment to allow swimmers to reach their goals, and maximise their potential in and out of the water. Our coaches work with the swimmers to provide an environment where they can grow as individuals and athletes.
