While water safety is a responsibility all year round, Water Safety Week gives everyone a chance to reflect on their skills in and around the water, to make sure everyone can have a safe experience this summer.
A SWIM Australia report has revealed the importance of learn to swim lessons, after it found 43% of parents think their child is too young to attend swimming lessons.
The report also found the cost of living pressures have impacted kids learning to swim, however, 48% have reduced spending in other areas to ensure their kids can attend lessons.
The SWIM Australia SWIMSAFER Week report found that:
• Under 5s at risk because parents believe they are too young to learn to swim
• Only 41% of Aussie kids are currently enrolled in swimming lessons
• 43% of parents believe their child is too young to attend swimming lessons
• 38% of parents believe swimming lessons are too expensive, however 48% have reduced their spending to afford lessons
• 54% of parents were not confident their child had the skills to help themselves in a water emergency
• 45% of parents did not believe they had the skills to help save someone in trouble in the water, yet 16% of parents say they are teaching their child to swim
• 33% of families have had a bad experience with water
Learn to swim lessons are run all year round at MSAC.
Our Swim School philosophy is that teaching aquatic skills helps with making good life choices, beginning with important water safety skills. We follow this with creating options for children and adults to experience wider aquatic environments to continue development.
