Nathan won a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 games, pairing with Lin Ma and Joel Coughlan in the men’s team C9-10.
Nathan has been training at MSAC with the National squad in preparation for Paris 2024, and we caught up with him before he took off for the Village.
Congratulations on your selection, how great is it to be pulling on the green and gold once again for Australia?
It’s really exciting to represent Australia once again at the Paralaympic games. [I’m] very excited to head over there, especially with family and friends being able to come this time, so really pumped to get there.
What are your goals for Paris 2024?
Of course to put on a show for the spectators, but to bring away some medals for Australia in hopefully mixed doubles and doubles and singles, that’s the aim.
Have you been to Paris before? What are you looking forward to when you get to the city?
I’m very lucky to [have been] to Paris before and looking forward to eating some nice food and getting some nice warm weather.
You’ve been training here at MSAC with the Para Squad in the lead up, how have the facilities here helped you prepare for the best results?
Here at MSAC, we’ve been lucky enough to train here preparing the last month, and the facilities are world-class standard, up to what we’ll play like in Paris, so it’s just good to prepare under the same conditions.
What do you love about table tennis and why should people give it a go?
You have to put a lot of thought into tactics against who your playing and be able to manipulate the opposition to be able to get the advantage. So I think anyone who wants to try a new sport should give table tennis a go, because, I guess, anyone can play.
How would you describe your playing style in three words…
Hit and miss! (laughs)
