State Netball and Hockey Centre will be abuzz this Wednesday night, 6 March as the WNBL and VNL descend on the home of Women’s Sport for a blockbuster evening of action.

The Southside Flyers will play host to the Melbourne Boomers in the final round of their three-match tussle to choose who will make it through to the Grand Final series. The Flyers won their first encounter last week 90-86, while the Boomers levelled the field on Saturday evening with a convincing 88-67 win.

While Parkville Arena puts on a show with the basketball, the Victorian Netball League (VNL) will begin their season at the State Netball Centre.

The VNL is a breeding ground for the sport’s future talent and for officials alike, with 12 clubs playing a full 22 week season plus finals.

With an incredible array of action on site this Wednesday, fans are asked to utilise Melbourne’s public transport network to get to the city’s inner west to support their team – whoever that may be!

Fans can access SNHC via Yarra Trams Route 58 tram (stop 25), or via Metro Trains Upfield Line (Royal Park Station).

‘This centre is the home of women’s sport in Victoria and how lucky are we to have not one, but two incredible tournaments happening on the same night,” said SNHC Venue Manager Marko Butorac.

“We’re anticipating a big turn out to cheer on the likes of Lauren Jackson and Monique Conti, but for fans to also to bring their passion for the VNL where stars of the future are donning a netball bib.”

Fans can also use ptv.vic.gov.au to plan their journey.

Tickets for Southside Flyers vs Melbourne Boomers are on sale via intix.

The VNL is free to watch, more information can be found at vic.netball.com.au

The State Netball and Hockey Centre redevelopment was completed in 2021 and now over 80 per cent of its users identify as female. The project delivering the venue expansion and upgrade and funded by the State Government, provides more opportunities for women of all ages to get active and strive for their best, on and off the courts. The redevelopment had a strong focus on women and girls in sport to kick start initiatives to drive change and grow female leadership in sport.
