An icon of the sport, Anne represented Victoria in 1933-34, and coached the Victorian State team throughout 1939 to 1958. Her highest achievement was coaching the Australian team on a tour of New Zealand in 1948.

Anne was a lifelong contributor to the sport in Victoria, as a player, coach, administrator and passionate advocate.  She dedicated her life to encouraging and supporting girls and young women in participating and competing in netball in inner Melbourne.

This statue was made possible through the Victorian Government’s Celebrating Female Sporting Icons initiative and the Statues for Equality project, a global effort driving a greater balance of gender and racial representation in public statues.

“I can only imagine the pride Anne Henderson would have in standing out the front of the wonderful State Netball Centre which has been transformed thanks to the $64.6m investment from the state government,” said Vicki Ward, Minister for Prevention of Family Violence and Minister for Employment.
