Hockey One Finals return to Melbourne

Melbourne is primed to deliver another electric atmosphere as fans rally behind their teams on one of Australian hockey’s biggest weekends at the State Hockey Centre.

Australia’s biggest domestic hockey showdown is heading to the sporting capital of Australia, with the 2025 Hockey One League Finals Series officially set for Melbourne from 29 – 30 November.

The Finals Series, which is proudly supported through the Victorian Government’s Significant Sporting Events Program, will see the top four men’s and women’s teams battle it out across two days at Parkville’s State Netball & Hockey Centre.

Seven weeks of fierce regular season action will culminate in the semi-finals on Saturday, followed by the gold and bronze medal matches on Sunday, all played at the venue’s 5,000-capacity arena.

Following last year’s strong turnout on the Road to Hobart, this year’s Finals Series is set to raise the bar again, with Melbourne primed to deliver another electric atmosphere as fans rally behind their teams on one of Australian hockey’s biggest weekends.

All matches will be streamed live and free on 7plus, as the League showcases the very best Australian elite and next-gen talent, alongside a growing roster of international stars.

The announcement comes as memberships go on sale nationwide*, with just 100 days to go until the League hits off.

Fans can secure their seat at all three home games by becoming a club member, while those in Melbourne have the added opportunity to lock in Finals access early with a HC Melbourne membership.

Kookaburras striker and reigning men’s champion Cooper Burns says there’s no better place for his side, HC Melbourne, to defend their 2024 title than on home turf.

“It’s really exciting and I think it’ll be great for hockey in Melbourne to have the Finals Series,” Cooper said.

“Our ultimate goal is always to win. We were very fortunate to secure our first title in the Hockey One League last year, and now it’s important we make the Finals so we can play in front of a home crowd.

“Fans can expect some really exciting hockey, it’s the way we like to play at HC Melbourne. We play a brand of really exciting, fast hockey, as all of the states do. The all-stars will all come out, and I have no doubt we’ll see a lot of goals in Finals.”

Hockey One League Executive Manager Sash Herceg says Melbourne is primed to continue to raise the bar for the League.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to bring the Finals Series to Australia’s sporting capital. After the incredible success of last season’s Road to Hobart Finals Series, we’re expecting to go even bigger at Melbourne’s 5,000-capacity State Netball & Hockey Centre.

“This is a city that lives and breathes elite sport, and we know fans will turn out in force. We’re calling on local supporters and travelling fans alike to get behind their teams, soak up everything Victoria has to offer, and witness exhilarating hockey action.”

Renowned for hosting some of the world’s biggest sporting spectacles, from AFL and Boxing Day cricket to Formula 1 and the Australian Open, Melbourne is now set to welcome a fresh and fast-paced addition to its calendar in 2025.
